John has been a retirement plan professional for over 30 years. His professional background and experience has provided his clients with a comprehensive understanding of retirement plan markets, plan design, plan operations and participant and sponsor communication and advice.
After starting his career as a tax professional with Ernst & Young. John attended the University of Dayton School of Law and later attended the University of Florida’s Master of Law and Taxation program. John practiced law for over 8 years within a large law firms ERISA practice group, with particular emphasis on shareholder driven retirement plans, ESOPs and 401(k) plans.
John’s expertise led him to Wachovia Bank’s Employee Benefit Group where he was C.O.O. for Virginia for four and a half years and followed by one year with RBC Centura Bank as its Retirement Groups C.O.O. Following his time at Centura Bank John joined Merrill Lynch for seven years as the Retirement Plan Manager for the Southeast for the Retirement Group. Immediately prior to starting My Benefits, LLC John was the Fidelity Advisor Retirement Specialist for the South Central Region and John Hancock Retirement Plan services.
Tim Kvam, Director, COO, has been a retirement plan specialist for nearly 20 years. Tim’s professional experience helps My Benefits deliver on our commitment to providing an “Ideal Client Experience” to our financial intermediaries, employers, and participants.
Prior to joining My Benefits, Tim spent a large portion of his career with John Hancock Retirement Plan Services partnering with financial intermediaries to develop, implement and support customized solutions to maximize retirement benefits for employers, minimize administrative burdens and enhance participant outcomes. In addition to continuing that legacy at My Benefits, Tim works directly with our clients and sales and marketing team to enhance the client experience and develop new markets.
Tim attended the College of Charleston and later received a degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Tim has two children, Finn & Maggie. As an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor Member, Tim continues to be heavily involved in supporting the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). His involvement with the BSA also helps support his passion for mountaineering and sailing.
Mary Beth has over 30 years of retirement plan experience. She relocated to Daphne, Alabama, 19 years ago to take an executive position with Regions Bank in the Trust Department where she was responsible for retirement plan administration and has since called Daphne, “Home, Sweet Home”.
Mary Beth was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and attended Pennsylvania State University obtaining a degree in Speech Communication with a minor in Business Administration. She started her career at Federated Investors and have held many positions within the retirement plan arena governed by ERISA. Her current position is with My Benefits, LLC, and First Party Administrators, LLC where she oversees all aspects of the administration department. Under her leadership each department reviews, interprets, and provides plan consultative services on the required legal documents for 401(k) retirement plans. We perform required testing under the 401(a) IRS code for plans including but not limited to: ADP/ACP, 402(g), 404(a), 410(b), 414(s), 415, and 416 top-heavy tests. In addition, we prepare trust reconciliations and file tax Form 5500 along with all related schedules for our clients. Lastly, we assist with plan audits, respond to IRS/DOL inquiries and letters, as well as handle all the IRS/DOL required notices including client requests for plan amendments.
When Mary Beth isn’t running all operations, she loves reading books, spending time with her husband and family on their boat and helping the community with volunteer work. Mary Beth has two sons who have recently graduated from Auburn University earning their degrees in Engineering and a daughter that is currently in the nursing program at the University of South Alabama. She hopes her children find her to be a source of inspiration to show them that anything is possible with hard work, faith, and kindness.
